Residency Requirement

Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their

employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.

 

Overview

Position Purpose:

Provides inventory support and preventative maintenance on all equipment within the Storeroom; works under the general direction of the Principal Storekeeper in order to maintain control of all inventory required for the necessary equipment used in daily operations within the Commission.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Accounts for and tracks all equipment, parts and supplies in the storeroom.
  • Receives, stores, and distributes all parts and supplies.
  • Monitors all materials/parts received to ensure compliance with order specifications in terms of quality, quantity and packaging requirements.
  • Assists in the maintenance and preparation of appropriate levels of inventory based upon established minimum/maximum points.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of all reports pertaining to the inventory value, status and activity levels.
  • Assists in the taking and recording of all physical inventories.
  • Checks equipment and performs limited preventive maintenance as required.
  • Assists in the establishment of standard specifications for equipment, parts and supplies.
  • Supervises and assists assigned staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Delivers equipment, parts and supplies to job sites.
  • May be required to operate a forklift.
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

 

Qualifications

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Previous experience in the maintenance and tracking inventory of parts and supplies, preferably in the public sector working with local government. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and a valid Massachusetts Hoisting License with 1D restriction.  May be required to complete Waste Water Collection Course and obtain certification.  May be required to complete Water Distribution Course. 

 

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

Knowledge:  Familiarity with basic office procedures; working knowledge of MS Office applications including Outlook; working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures; completion of both the waste water and the water distribution courses may be required.

 

Ability: Communicate effectively and tactfully with managers; prioritize and complete multiple tasks at one time with frequent interruption;  operate a computer with intermediate skills when using software programs; manage databases and other software as required by the position; maintain and create spreadsheets and records; use telephone system.

 

Skill: Excellent customer service skills; strong organizational skills; basic data entry skills; excellent supervisory skills.

This position is frequently required to sit, communicate, hear, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally walk and lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.  Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.  This position requires the ability to operate a keyboard and calculator at efficient speed. 

 

Supervision:

Supervision Scope: This position performs various duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the ability to complete assigned tasks according to established procedures and protocol.

 

Supervision Received:  Works under the general direction of the department manager and in accordance with applicable Massachusetts General Laws, city policies and relevant state, federal, and local regulations and standards. Follows established work plan and completes work in accordance with established departmental policies and standards; issues are referred to supervisor.

 

Supervision Given:  None.

 

Job Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment. Majority of work is performed in a moderately quiet work environment.
  • Operates computer, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and all other standard office equipment.
  • Makes frequent contact with city departments and the general public and auditors.
  • Errors could result in delay or loss of service, and have potential legal and/or financial repercussions.
