Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their
employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform general carpentry work to include layout, construction, repairing and assembling temporary and permanent building, additions, partitions, and wood furniture and fixtures. Perform general carpentry work in the construction, repair and renovation of floors, stairways, partitions, doors, windows and screens from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions. Perform work which is basic to most building construction. Install glass in windows, doors, partitions; replace ceiling tiles, floor tiles and other damaged equipment as assigned. Select, cut, trim and process lumber as specified using hand and power tools and woodworking machines such as power saws, band saws, jointers planes and drill presses. Sand cabinets, work tables, and other wood articles. Estimate amount of required lumber and supplies for projects; select type of lumber and material necessary. Perform a variety of installation and maintenance work. Inspect completed work and direct any rework or modifications. Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to interpret blueprints and drawings. Work requires 3 years of experience in carpentry methods and techniques. Ability to write accurate reports. Must posses’ a valid Massachusetts Driver’s license. Must have knowledge of all safety procedures and be able to demonstrate the proper use of all required safety equipment. Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commission.
