Residency Requirement

 

Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their

employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Answer telephone calls; receive complaints and requests for services; record location and type of maintenance request into a log book or a computer; distribute work orders among various crews; give maintenance crews additional information and instruction by telephone or radio and post completed work orders into a log book or a computer.  Use conventional written records or computer terminal, keyboard and printer to record maintenance data, office records and stock inventories; track responses to requests and produce periodic reports and correspondence.  Type, file, coordinate and maintain various filing systems utilizing the computer and/or written records.  Answer inquiries received from other departments.  Perform related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

 

High School Diploma or GED required.  Typing speed of 30-35 wpm.  Must have basic general clerical and secretarial skills.  Ability to deal effectively with other employees and the public.  Required to work any emergency directed by the Commission or its designee. Good communication skills.  Ability to work independently.  Ability to open and close work orders daily.  Knowledge of office record-keeping and equipment. Successful completion of the BWSC’s Apprentice Program unless otherwise agreed. May be required to complete Waste Water Collection Course and obtain certification. May be required to complete Water Distribution Course.
