Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their
employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspect cross connection controls, grease traps and related disposal mechanisms for compliance with Commission and other regulations. Make appointments with owners and/or operators of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential properties to survey premises for possible cross connection or grease trap violations. Develop recommendations via concise reports for property owners and other interested parties for remedial or corrective action. Perform inspections and tests on approved backflow and grease trap devices and submit copies of the inspection reports to interested parties in an expeditious manner. Explain pertinent law and regulations to interested parties. Maintain electronic and written reports. Operate and/or enter data for computer systems, records and programs. Maintain filing systems and keep records of monthly activities, time sheets, vacation schedules, etc. Coordinate work with Mass. DEP and other agencies. May assist in legal investigations including testifying in court or at other administrative hearings.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must possess a MDEP Backflow Device Testers License. Must possess or obtain MDEP Cross Connection Survey License within one (1) year. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License. Ability to read, understand and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Prior experience in plumbing, heating, gas fitting or pipefitting is recommended. Ability to work cooperatively with the general public and employees of other agencies is required. Ability to prepare concise and accurate written or oral reports.
